The Streets of Samcheok: Halloween In Korea

My academy here in Korea decided to celebrate the American tradition of Halloween this year. The kids totally loved it and some even had costumes, which surprised me. I wish I could take every Korean kid to America for Halloween so they could experience it. It's so fun and as an American child it's the one time of the year you can go to strangers house and get candy!

A student named Chris' costume. Having this over his head got him to shut up for once. lol

Doesn't she just look so excited!!!! Emily who is the most non-nonchalant child I've ever ran across, warmed up to the party as soon as the face paint came out.

The artsy flower I painted on her dainty face.

Everyone wanted me to paint them as a cat so I happily obliged since it was so easy to do. I was more interested in watching Kung Fu Panda in the other room.
Two of the lovely teachers I work with.

Though Korea doesn't celebrate Halloween one of the teachers was excellent at creating decorations for it. I call her the next Martha Steward.

They asked me what the origin of Halloween was. I busted out laughing because I had to no clue. I just know it's time to get candy! I did here it originated as a pagan tradition. Heck I just want my candy!

One of my classes last week decided they wanted to share scary stories. They turned out the lights and one student volunteered to do a story. Unfortunetly it wasn't scary and it sounded like he was reading a college dissertation. lol

Extreme LOLZ at the toilet paper sitting right on the shelf. hahahahaaha

They eat perisimmons and tangerines out here, rarely oranges. Korea also doesn't really sell any Halloween candy so the kids had to make due with fruit, these grahram cracker things, and a few bite sized Snickers. But they don't know any different. If these were American children they'd have a problem!

The next Martha Steward here who drew an amazing bat on her hand with kiddie paint! Made my sunflower look like booboo!

More cat faces for the ladies! As you all can see, the peace sign is the unofficial pose for Korea.

They loved messing with that ghost hanging on the wall. When you clap your hands it screamed for like 10 minutes.

I think the Scream mask was the only costume sold out here.

Cool glasses huh? And I painted blood on his face!

The lovely ladies Emma and Carly.

She repainted her hand about 15 times.

Scream getting a drink of water.

Rachel as Hello Kitty!

John and David.

The screaming ghost that wouldn't shut up.

Rebecca as a cat.

I had so much fun with the kids and am happy they got to experience Halloween! Now someone send me some AMERICAN CANDY NOW PLEASE! Ahh I REALLY need some. lol

Dongdaemun (동대문), Where Your Fashion Oasis Awaits!

I love going to Seoul every weekend and wondering what new things I will discover. A friend told me of this great area called Dongdaemun in Seoul that literally sells EVERYTHING pertaining to clothing for cheap. If Ralph Lauren wanted to go to Dongdaemun to make a 12 piece collection he could. He could get the fabric, zippers, notions, feathers, appliques, pearls, and/or pins. If he decided to make matching handbags and belts, everything from the buckle to the lining he could find. If he also wanted to make the curtains for the stage and buy the hangers and racks to put the clothes on HE COULD! Absolutely EVERYTHING you could every want for fashion rests in Dongdaemun. It's very cheap in price and usually none of the items have a brand. The entire Dongdaemun area consists of shops on the streets with low prices to 10 story malls with higher priced clothing. It's definitely a sight to see.

The Kpop Files! JYJ's Album Review & Kpop Socks!

So I went to the amazing and breath taking shopping mecca that is Dongdaemun in Seoul this weekend and passed by some KPOP socks on the streets I could NOT resist! I have a crazy fetish for collecting cute socks. I have a LOT of socks. More than a person should have but I can't resist socks with cute characters on them like penguins or other random stuff. Kpop socks are an extra plus because I can buy characters of my favorite Kpop groups.

Can you all guess which group members these are?

To be honest I have no clue which member of 2pm this is. I just thought this sock was cute. lol

OF COURSE, TAEYANG from Big Bang! It looks like he's singing "I just want to know baby baby where you at, where you at?" lol

I had to read the Hangul on this one and sound out the words. It came out to be Jonghyun who is one of the best singers in Korea and my favorite of Shinee. You guys didn't know I could read Korean huh? SOMETIMES I CAN.

Also back home in Samcheok I got the sudden urge to buy JYJ's new album "In Heaven". While I was in the music shop I asked if they had any old school Rain CD's which they did!

It's RAINING BABY! I promised myself while Rain is gone I will learn the Korean lyrics to all his songs because I was mad all the crazy fangirls new the words and I didn't! It'll help me in learning Korean also!

Check out my Review of the album.

Pictures from the JYJ's CD booklet.

Now I support both Homin and JYJ but I rock JYJ music WAY more because they have a very mature
emotional sound. It's not about the dancing or clothing, it's about their vocals and the pain they have endured during the past year. I can really appreciate them being so open.

I don't really have a bias because I like them for their music not their looks. I mean hey they're not bad to look at at all, it's just my heart beats for only ONE MAN in KPOP. You all know who THAT is!

And a FREE poster with my CD!

Seoul Fashion Week 2011

Saturday October 22nd I arrived in Hangyeoul around 11 am and trotted into Setec where Seoul Fashion Week 2011 was taking place. I had absolutely no knowledge (because I am still in the process of learning Korean) that the public could buy tickets to each show! Beforehand I had just guessed each show was only allotted for industry insiders and press just as New York or London Fashion Week is. This was to the contrary because Asian high designer fashion as a whole is still progressing and working it's way into the world spotlight. Therefore the public becomes part of the PR and marketing machine. All tickets were sold out but SFW was kind enough to have a jumbo screen in the lobby that had live feed of each show. I was lucky enough to catch the VANDALIST BY VANDAL collection!! Ah how sweet right? I did a post on him for my Seoul Designer Series. He's definitely a favorite of mine. I also checked out menswear line D.GNAK. The people attending were just as fashionable as the runway models. I got photographed a few times which was really cool. One of the photographers gave me the info to check out the pictures but its Naver, a Korean site, so it's a little difficult for me to find his blog. Anywho without further ado.....SEOUL FASHION WEEK!

The Streets of Samcheok: Coffee in No Mans Land

So I was invited to go mountain climbing again with the director of my school. I said yes even though it was way earlier than I get up in the morning. Well plans changed, people were added, the weather changed and we ended up going to a coffee shop instead. But this coffee shop was like none other. It was literally a kind of shop where you have to "be in the know" to know about it. It was located on the top of a mountain along a way one unpaved road where there was no cell phone coverage. No one in their right mind would venture that far in the forest of a mountain unless they knew where they were going. And I'd have to say it was worth the trip! The older man handmade coffee himself and it was quite amazing I'd have to say. The coffee was sweet but bitter and had a great aroma. Totally something you could ONLY get in the country made my an old guy. I went with my school's director and another teacher. We had a wonderful time! Check out the pictures and let me know what you think!

 A mangy dog.

The mask is a traditional Korean Mask used in plays.

Inside the shop.

The owner who used to be some rich business man who decided to move to the country and open an isolate coffee shop right next to his house!

 Precisely hand making the coffee.

 Teas brewing.

These weird naked statues he had everywhere. Awkward!

His cute cats. That ran away from us.

 Come here kitty kitty.

A perfect persimmon fruit and a pumpkin Dunkin Donut.

I don't know why I stood it up like it was modeling.

The perfect hand made coffee I drank in 10 seconds.

So apparently you eat these after you freeze them for a few months and then peal and eat like sherbet.

Before we knew it the wine had came out the cellar. lol

A cool vinyl Korean record case.

Another weird sexual painting. I like if though!

It's hilarious how she kept a straight face taking this picture even though she was tipsy as heck and drank both of those wine cups in the picture below. lolz

 A flying fish.

Until Next Time! I wonder what adventures are in store for me next week!
Would you all visit this shop? Let me know in the comments section!
